The Future of PR

People underestimate the power of social media. Slowly but surely the fast paced, ever changing world of social media is taking control of our lives. We are surrounded by it, every campaign has a hashtag, every company has their own profiles. It is the quickest and easiest way to get messages across, and it’s free. I believe the future of PR is in social media.

Press releases are dying out; now it’s all about social media news releases. Everything is online, soon enough we won’t even need to call or email, it’ll all be done on social media. It has been shown to every student that they need to have a Twitter account; Facebook, LinkedIn, Blogs- and they’re just the basics. Then you’ve got Pinterest, Instagram, Vine, Tumblr, Flickr, and YouTube. There is so much out there, so many ways you can showcase your creativity and professionalism that you no longer need paper CV’s.

It has become so powerful that companies are now using social media to optimize their PR campaigns because they know this will be a success. I will give you one example and by giving you three words you will know exactly what I’m talking about... #DancePonyDance. This campaign went viral all over social media platforms. It was viewed more than 5 million times on YouTube, had 863,958 Facebook shares and 22,584 Twitter shares; all within two weeks.

The power of social media is increasing as the day goes on, and not only for companies, but also individuals. The future of PR is in social media and it isn’t going to stop here.
